Teaching art/drawing is a huge part of being an artist for me. I have always had an element of teaching going on whether that's been at art clubs demonstrating, teaching 1.1 or teaching in schools and colleges. After having my daughter, we made the decision that going back to run the Level 2 Art and Design course at Weston College was not going to work around raising her. However, I couldn't let the teaching bug go! I have always wanted to run my own art classes, in our village a new community centre was being set up and I felt I had no reason not to give it a go. The idea around the classes is for them to provide a space for creatives to spend time working on their own projects, paintings and drawings. People find it difficult to make time for their creative pursuits and by committing to a weekly session they have time to be totally absorbed by their creative outlet with no distractions.

Happy new year! I have wanted to start writing a blog for a little while now but it's always been pushed aside for drawing/social media. Now that I am doing this art thing full time (as full time as possible with a one year old!) I brought myself The Makers Year book, it had raving reviews and seemed to be the organisational book/diary I needed in my life. I have spent most evenings addicted to filling it in, making sure I start the new year on the right track and feeling full of motivation! It's a great book! It breaks down how to run a business into really manageable chunks - I can draw pretty pictures but a being a business woman is an area I tend to struggle, I imagine like most artists out there, being quiet and totally immersed in a drawing is one thing....being a strong headed and driven business person is a totally different ball game. So for 2020 I have heaps of exciting things planned in this book, I am determined to make them a reality! Today my first list is almost complete and we're only on the first nap time - work time for me! I will keep mentioning this book and let you know how I get on with it throughout the year. Looking to the next few months there are some super cute pets booked in to be drawn! I will also be working with Halstock Cabinet Makers designing some beautiful carvings and laser cuts! If you would like to be updated throughout the year, please sign up to my mailing list! |
